One day in Regina: X92.9 DJ Seanna Jefferson

The local DJ gives us insider tips on where to eat and drink in Regina

Seanna Jefferson x92.9

Playing some of the best alternative tunes and interviewing acts like Raine Maida, Metric, The Sheepdogs and Dallas Green is all in a day's work for her, so we can't help but be a little jealous of Seanna Jefferson. Just a little.

As X92.9's midday host, Jefferson banters with listeners and fellow DJs, like Tyler Middleton, between indie sets during the work week. Before she doned the headphones at X92.9 in Calgary, she spent two years on-air with 104.9 The Wolf in Regina, Saskatchewan.

With some definite love for the prairie city shining through in her answers, the radio DJ gives us the best places to head for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and even dessert in Regina.

Breakfast

La Bodega is an unbelievable place to enjoy an amazing afternoon brunch. With a three-level patio, it’s a great place to enjoy an incredibly fresh smoothie and a great eggs Benedict. If you head to the top level, you’re surrounded by older trees and feel as though you’ve been transported out of the city and into an exotic vacation spot.

If you want something a little simpler, like a side of bacon with syrup, some beef jerky or a breakfast poutine, Leopold’s is the place. It’s a cozy spot with a ton of local sports paraphernalia all over the ceiling and walls.

Lunch

Crave Kitchen and Wine Bar is a great spot right in downtown Regina. It brings in local ingredients, pairs your meal with the perfect wine, and the atmosphere is always amazing. Its steak frites is a classic done to perfection, but the menu is constantly changing to take advantage of the local features. It's the perfect place to host events; very intimate, yet accommodating.

Flip, another place that people seem to love, is just around the corner. It’s a little cozy in there, but the food is unbelievable.

Dinner

Teppanyaki Japanese Steak House can meet your needs if you want an experience where food is made in front of you. The chefs cook right in front of you, each with his own style and the showmanship. They can accommodate an intimate date-night experience or a large group.

If you want an authentic brewpub that originated in Germany, Bushwakker is your place. It hosts local musicians and its own brew, with the line up for its seasonal mead out the door. There’s a ton of room, a homely feel, and a menu that carries something for every palate, from a delicious homemade burger to the Saskatchewan hot plate with cabbage rolls, perogies, koubassa, and its signature beer bread.

Drinks

O’Hanlons is the local favourite, by far. Local bands and DJs are constantly making an appearance. Its recently renovated stage makes for a perfect drink and party spot.

If you want a unique beer experience, Beer Brothers downtown has a ton of beer connoisseurs who are at your beck and call if you have a question. It constantly features a ton of new beers.

This is the home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, after all. So, if you want a place to watch the game, Press Box Sports Bar is the obvious choice. You can enjoy the full "Rider" experience if you go before and/or after a Roughrider game.

Dessert

If sweets are your thing then you have to go to Milky Way Ice Cream. It has got an amazing selection of ice cream and toppings to go with it. And, on a hot weekend afternoon, there will most certainly be a line up. It's been around for ages; it's a staple in Regina and the menu itself is worth a good laugh.
